Kustos End User Licence Agreement
The full document. The plain-language summary on the Legal page never overrides it.
Effective date: 27 September 2026 Licensor: Kustos ("we", "us", "our") Contact: kustos.wiki@gmail.com Website: https://kustos.wiki
This End User Licence Agreement ("Agreement") is between you and us. It covers the Kustos software ("Kustos" or the "Software"), including any updates, the website at https://kustos.wiki (the "Website"), and the licence service Kustos uses to check your subscription (together, the "Service").
By installing, running, or signing in to Kustos, or by starting a trial or subscription, you agree to this Agreement. If you do not agree, do not install or use Kustos.
Plain-language summary. Kustos runs on your own hardware. You pay for a licence to use it, not for ownership of it. Your media library stays on your machine. We only see the Plex account details needed to check your licence. Kustos can change and delete things in your Plex server and your connected apps when you tell it to, so keep backups. This summary is for convenience only. The full terms below are what apply.
1. Who can use Kustos
1.1 You must be at least the age of majority where you live, or have permission from a parent or guardian who agrees to this Agreement for you.
1.2 You need a Plex account to sign in. You must own that account or be allowed to use it. Kustos is meant for managing Plex servers you own or run.
1.3 If you accept this Agreement for an organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organization.
2. The licence we grant you
2.1 Grant. As long as you follow this Agreement and have an active trial or subscription, we give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable licence to install and run Kustos on hardware you own or control, to manage the Plex servers that belong to the Plex account you signed in with.
2.2 One subscription, all your servers. One subscription covers every Plex server owned by the Plex account linked to it. It does not cover servers owned by other Plex accounts.
2.3 Household members. You may let people in your household, and people you share your Plex server with, use Kustos features you make available to them, such as requests, watchlists, and linked Trakt or Simkl accounts. You are responsible for how they use it.
2.4 We keep ownership. Kustos is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights, title, and interest in the Software, the Website, and the Kustos name, logo, and branding, apart from the limited licence in this section.
3. What you may not do
You may not, and may not help anyone else to:
- copy, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, lend, or redistribute Kustos, or offer it as a hosted service to other people;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble Kustos, except where the law allows this despite this restriction;
- remove, disable, or get around the licence check, trial limits, or any other technical protection;
- create or use more than one Plex account to get more free trials;
- share, resell, or transfer your subscription or its access to a Plex account you do not own;
- use Kustos to break the law, or to break the terms of Plex or any other service you connect;
- use Kustos to access, copy, or distribute media or artwork you have no right to;
- remove or change any copyright, trademark, or licence notices in Kustos or in its third-party components.
4. Free trial
4.1 Each Plex account gets one 30-day free trial, one time only. No payment card is needed.
4.2 The trial is tied to the Plex account, not to a particular install or computer. Reinstalling Kustos, moving it to another machine, or adding another server does not reset the trial.
4.3 When the trial ends, the limits in section 6 apply until you subscribe.
5. Subscriptions and payment
5.1 Plans. Kustos is available as a subscription at the prices shown on the Website at the time you buy. When this Agreement was published, those were US$5.99 per month or US$60 per year. Taxes may be added where they apply.
5.2 Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each monthly or yearly period, and you are charged the current price for your plan, until you cancel.
5.3 Payment processing. Payments are handled by Stripe, which acts as the reseller and merchant of record for Kustos subscriptions. Stripe collects payment, handles applicable sales taxes, and issues receipts. Your purchase is also subject to Stripe's terms for customers, which Stripe shows you at checkout. We never see or store your full card details.
5.4 Managing and cancelling your subscription. Your subscription is managed through the Stripe customer portal, where you can cancel, change your payment card, and view or download your invoices. You can reach it in two ways, and both do the same thing:
- Inside Kustos — Settings → Subscription → Manage billing. This signs you in automatically.
- From anywhere — the billing portal linked from the Pricing and Sign in pages at https://kustos.wiki. Enter the email address you paid with and Stripe sends you a one-time code.
The second route does not require Kustos to be running or reachable, and does not require access to your home network. This matters because Kustos runs on your own machine: if your server is off, or you are away from home, or your subscription has already lapsed, you can still manage your billing.
When you cancel, your subscription stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, and does not renew after that. We do not give partial refunds for unused time, except as described in section 5.5 or where the law requires.
5.5 Refunds. If something went wrong in the first month of a paid period, contact us at kustos.wiki@gmail.com and we will look at a refund in good faith. Refunds are issued through Stripe. This section does not limit any refund or cancellation rights you have under the consumer protection laws that apply where you live.
5.6 Price changes. We may change subscription prices. We will tell you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your subscription. The new price takes effect at your next renewal after that notice. If you do not want to pay the new price, cancel before your renewal.
6. When a trial or subscription ends
6.1 If your trial or subscription ends, or payment fails and is not fixed, Kustos stops running scheduled tasks and blocks Artwork Studio. It does not delete your settings, rules, collections, artwork, watch history, or other data. If you subscribe again, Kustos continues where it stopped.
6.2 Licence check and grace period. Kustos checks your licence with our licence service from time to time. If Kustos cannot reach the licence service, for example because of an outage on our side or a network problem on yours, it keeps working for a 3-day grace period after the last successful check. If the check still fails after that, section 6.1 applies until a check succeeds.
7. Your data and privacy
7.1 Your library stays with you. Kustos keeps its database, including your collections, rules, artwork records, and watch history, on your own hardware. We do not receive your media files, your library contents, or your watch history.
7.2 What we receive. For the licence check, Kustos sends your Plex sign-in token to our licence service. The licence service confirms it with plex.tv and stores your Plex user ID and the email address on your Plex account, together with your trial dates and subscription status. If you subscribe, Stripe gives us your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers. We use this information only to provide and support your licence, to prevent abuse of trials, and to contact you about your account.
7.3 What leaves your server, and where it goes. Kustos contacts outside services directly from your server, using keys you provide:
- Metadata and artwork services you turn on, such as TMDB, ThePosterDB, MediUX, Fanart.tv, Trakt, MDBList, Simkl, and TheTVDB. Kustos sends them title names and IDs so it can look up information and artwork.
- AI providers, only if you add an AI key. Your chat messages and the context Kustos needs to answer them, and, if you enable artwork text detection, the artwork images being checked, go to the provider your key belongs to (for example Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, or an OpenAI-compatible host you choose). If you do not add a key, nothing is sent.
- GitHub, to download releases of apps such as Sonarr or Radarr when you install or update them through Kustos. No personal data is sent.
- Your own apps, such as Plex, Sonarr, Radarr, Tautulli, qBittorrent, Seerr, and Telegram, where Kustos acts on your instructions.
These services handle data under their own terms and privacy policies, not ours.
7.4 No telemetry. Kustos does not include analytics, usage tracking, or crash reporting. It does not send your library or your usage back to us.
7.5 Our Privacy Policy at https://kustos.wiki/privacy explains in more detail how we handle personal information and how you can ask to see, correct, or delete it.
8. Third-party services and content
8.1 Not affiliated. Kustos is an independent product. It is not made, endorsed, or supported by Plex, Trakt, Simkl, TMDB, ThePosterDB, MediUX, Fanart.tv, TheTVDB, MDBList, the Sonarr, Radarr or other *arr projects, Stripe, Telegram, or any AI provider. Their names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to describe what Kustos works with.
8.2 Their terms apply. When you connect a third-party service, you are responsible for following its terms, including API rules, rate limits, and paid-tier requirements. We are not responsible for third-party services, their availability, or changes they make that affect Kustos.
8.3 Artwork and metadata. Kustos can fetch, compose, and apply posters, title cards, and other artwork using images and data from third-party sources. We do not own that content and do not give you any rights to it. The rights stay with their owners. You are responsible for making sure your use, including anything you share outside your own server, is allowed.
8.4 Open-source components. Kustos includes open-source software, each part under its own licence. A list of these components and their licences is on the Credits page at https://kustos.wiki/credits and in Kustos. If an open-source licence gives you rights that this Agreement does not, that licence controls for that component.
9. AI features
9.1 AI features only work with an API key you get from and pay for with an AI provider. Your use of that provider is under its terms.
9.2 The Kustos assistant can take actions in Kustos, such as creating collections or rules, based on what you ask. AI output can be wrong or incomplete. Check what the assistant proposes before you confirm it, especially anything that changes or deletes content. You are responsible for the actions you approve.
10. Changes, deletions, and backups
10.1 Kustos can change and delete content in your Plex server and connected apps, including removing media files through cleanup rules, changing tags and metadata, replacing artwork, and changing watch state on linked Trakt or Simkl accounts. It does these things when you set up or confirm them.
10.2 Kustos includes safeguards such as previews, protection rules, and confirmation steps. They cannot catch every mistake in a rule, a setting, or data from a third party. You are responsible for reviewing what a rule will do and for keeping your own backups.
11. Updates and support
11.1 We may release updates that fix bugs, add or change features, or remove features. Some updates may be needed to keep using the licence service. We will try not to remove a major paid feature without telling you in advance.
11.2 We provide support by email at kustos.wiki@gmail.com and through the help resources on the Website. We will make reasonable efforts to respond, but we do not promise response times or availability.
12. Feedback
If you send us ideas, suggestions, or bug reports, we may use them to improve Kustos without owing you anything. This does not give us rights to your own data.
13. Disclaimer of warranties
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, KUSTOS AND THE SERVICE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT PROMISE THAT KUSTOS WILL BE ERROR-FREE OR UNINTERRUPTED, THAT IT WILL WORK WITH EVERY SETUP OR THIRD-PARTY SERVICE, OR THAT IT WILL NOT CAUSE DATA LOSS.
Some places do not allow some of these exclusions. Where that is the case, they apply only as far as the law allows.
14. Limitation of liability
14.1 TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, MEDIA FILES, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO KUSTOS OR THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD THIS COULD HAPPEN.
14.2 TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATED TO KUSTOS OR THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR KUSTOS IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT THAT LED TO THE CLAIM.
14.3 Nothing in this Agreement limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
15. Indemnity
To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs from third-party claims that come from your breach of this Agreement, your breach of a third-party service's terms, or content you access, create, or share with Kustos.
16. Ending this Agreement
16.1 You can end this Agreement at any time by cancelling any subscription and uninstalling Kustos.
16.2 We may suspend or end your licence if you seriously or repeatedly breach this Agreement, for example by getting around the licence check or abusing trials. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem.
16.3 If we stop offering Kustos altogether, we will give at least 30 days' notice and refund any prepaid time left on your subscription after the shutdown date.
16.4 When this Agreement ends, your licence ends and you must stop using Kustos. Sections 2.4, 3, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, and 18 continue to apply.
17. Changes to this Agreement
We may update this Agreement. For material changes, we will tell you through Kustos, the Website, or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using Kustos after that date, the updated Agreement applies. If you do not agree, cancel and stop using Kustos before the changes take effect. Changes do not apply to disputes that started before the change.
18. General
18.1 Governing law. This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The courts of Ontario have jurisdiction, except where consumer protection laws where you live give you the right to bring a claim in your own courts or under your local law.
18.2 Export. You must follow applicable export and sanctions laws when you use Kustos.
18.3 Entire agreement. This Agreement, together with the Privacy Policy and the checkout terms shown by Stripe, is the entire agreement between you and us about Kustos. Any plain-language summaries on the Website or in Kustos are for convenience and do not override this Agreement.
18.4 Severability. If any part of this Agreement cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
18.5 No waiver. If we do not enforce a right right away, we have not given it up.
18.6 Assignment. You may not transfer this Agreement without our written consent. We may transfer it as part of a sale or reorganization of the business that owns Kustos, and we will tell you if that happens.
18.7 Language. If this Agreement is translated, the English version controls where the law allows.
18.8 Contact. Questions about this Agreement: kustos.wiki@gmail.com.
