Every overlay setting

Every box on an overlay preset, what it does, and what leaving it blank means. The same sentences appear as tooltips in the app — hover any setting's label.

Most fields are blank by default, meaning "use the preset's own value". You are overriding a design that already works, so change one thing at a time and watch the live preview.

Settings most presets share

SettingWhat it does
PositionWhich corner or edge of the poster the badge is pinned to, plus a nudge in pixels from that spot.
Size %The badge's size as a percentage of its normal size. 100 is the default; 150 is half again as large.
WeightWhich badge wins when two land on the same spot. The higher weight draws and the other stands down; badges in different spots never affect each other.
Backdrop ColorThe plate colour behind the badge. Blank keeps the overlay's built-in plate, a translucent black.
Backdrop Opacity %How see-through the plate is, 0 to 100. Lower is subtler. This is also what keeps a plate translucent after you pick a colour — the colour picker has no transparency of its own, so without this any chosen colour would come out solid.
Corner RadiusHow rounded the plate's corners are. 30 is a soft rounded corner, 0 is square. Blank keeps whatever the overlay was built with, which differs per badge.
Backdrop PaddingSpace between the text and the plate's edge. Blank keeps the built-in spacing; a negative number tightens it.
Backdrop WidthForce the plate to a fixed width instead of fitting it to the text. Blank fits the text.
Backdrop HeightForce the plate to a fixed height instead of fitting it to the text. Blank fits the text.
Border ColorThe colour of a line drawn around the plate. Needs a Border Width above 0 to show.
Border WidthHow thick the line around the plate is. 0 draws no border.
Text Glow %A soft dark halo behind the text instead of a plate, so the badge stays readable on bright artwork without a visible box. 0 is off.
Font ColorThe text colour. Blank keeps the overlay's built-in colour.
Font SizeThe text size, in the same 1000px-wide scale the positions use, so it scales with Size %. Blank uses the built-in 42.
FontWhich installed font the text is drawn in. These come from your Kometa or TitleCardMaker font folders — point Kustos at them in Settings if the list is empty.
Outline ColorThe colour of the outline around each letter. Needs an Outline Width above 0 to show.
Outline WidthHow thick the outline around each letter is. 0 is none; 3 reads well on busy artwork.

Settings that belong to one overlay

Resolution & HDR

4K / 1080p badge combined with Dolby Vision / HDR.

SettingWhat it does
Use All ResolutionsWhich resolutions may draw a badge. Untick one and titles at that resolution get no resolution badge.
Use All Dynamic-Range VariantsWhich dynamic-range variants may draw — Dolby Vision, HDR, and so on. Untick one and it falls back to the plain resolution badge.

Edition

Director's Cut / IMAX / Extended edition badge.

SettingWhat it does
Use All EditionsWhich editions may draw a badge. Untick one and titles of that edition get no edition badge.

Ratings

Up to three rating badges from IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, TMDb or Metacritic. Each slot is configurable; episodes use their own two slots (Plex's per-episode scores).

SettingWhat it does
Rating 1Which rating source fills the first slot on movies and shows. The source picks its own badge artwork.
Rating 2Which rating source fills the second slot on movies and shows.
Rating 3Which rating source fills the third slot on movies and shows.
Episode Rating 1Which rating source fills the first slot on episodes. Episodes have their own two slots because their scores come from Plex per episode.
Episode Rating 2Which rating source fills the second slot on episodes.

Audio Codec

Dolby Atmos / DTS-X / TrueHD badge.

SettingWhat it does
StyleCompact draws the codec name only; Standard adds the Dolby/DTS wordmark tile, which is wider.
Use All CodecsWhich audio codecs may draw a badge. Untick one and files with that codec get no audio badge.

Video Format

REMUX / WEB-DL / etc. text badge.

SettingWhat it does
Use All FormatsWhich source formats may draw a badge — REMUX, WEB-DL and the rest.

Network

TV network logo.

SettingWhat it does
StyleColor uses the network's own logo colours; White draws a flat white version, which reads better on busy artwork.

Studio

Production-studio logo.

SettingWhat it does
StyleStandard is the normal wordmark size; Bigger scales it up for studios whose logo is mostly empty space.

Streaming Service

Netflix / Disney+ / etc. logo.

SettingWhat it does
StyleColor uses the service's own logo colours; White draws a flat white version, which reads better on busy artwork.
RegionThe country whose streaming availability is used, as a two-letter code. A show on Netflix in the US may be elsewhere in another region.
Use All ServicesWhich streaming services may draw their logo. Untick one to keep it off your posters.

Audio Languages

A flag for each audio (or subtitle) language on the file.

SettingWhat it does
StyleThe flag's shape: round, square, or half (a flag split diagonally, which packs more of them in the same width).
Max Flags ShownThe most flags to draw on one poster. A title with more languages than this shows the first few.
Use Subtitle Languages (instead of Audio)Draw flags for the subtitle languages on the file instead of the audio languages.
Hide If Only This LanguageDraw no flags at all when this is the only language on the file — usually "en", so the flags mark what is unusual rather than appearing on everything.

Award Ribbon

Oscars / IMDb Top 250 / etc. corner ribbon.

SettingWhat it does
ColorThe ribbon's colour. The award artwork inside it does not change.
SideWhich top corner the ribbon sits in.

Show Status

Airing / Returning / Canceled / Ended text (shows).

SettingWhat it does
AlignmentWhich edge the badge is anchored by, and which side the text hugs inside its plate. Auto keeps the position grid's own choice and centres the text — fine until the text length changes, which moves a centred badge.
Tuck Against EdgePull the badge flush against the poster edge so it reads as part of the artwork rather than floating on it.
Tuck InsetHow far in from the edge a tucked badge sits. Blank means flush. Inside a Kustos poster frame the frame has its own inset: fade 64, slant 55, bezel and notched 98, gradient 30.
Backdrop Color (default)The plate colour behind the status text, for any status without its own colour set below.
Plate SizeStatic gives every status the same plate width and shrinks long text to fit, so the badges line up across your library. Auto sizes each plate to its own text, so "ENDED" is narrower than "RETURNING".
Text: AiringThe wording for a show that is currently airing.
Text: ReturningThe wording for a show that has ended its season but is coming back.
Text: CanceledThe wording for a show that has been canceled.
Text: EndedThe wording for a show that finished its run.
Backdrop: AiringPlate colour for airing shows only. Blank uses the default plate colour above.
Backdrop: ReturningPlate colour for returning shows only. Blank uses the default plate colour above.
Backdrop: CanceledPlate colour for canceled shows only. Blank uses the default plate colour above.
Backdrop: EndedPlate colour for ended shows only. Blank uses the default plate colour above.
Show AiringDraw a badge on airing shows. Untick to leave them bare.
Show ReturningDraw a badge on returning shows. Untick to leave them bare.
Show CanceledDraw a badge on canceled shows. Untick to leave them bare.
Show EndedDraw a badge on ended shows. Untick to leave them bare.
Show next airing dateWhen Sonarr knows the next episode's date, show that instead of the plain status text. A show with no known date keeps its plain status, so this never blanks a badge.
AiringThe wording in front of the date on an airing show, for example AIRING in "AIRING IN 3 DAYS".
Countdown or dateCountdown counts down — "IN 3 DAYS", "TODAY". Date prints the day itself, "ON APR 1ST".
CaseWhether the airing countdown is drawn in capitals or as written.
ReturningThe wording in front of the date on a returning show.
Countdown or dateCountdown counts down — "IN 3 DAYS", "TODAY". Date prints the day itself, "ON APR 1ST".
CaseWhether the returning countdown is drawn in capitals or as written.

Leaving Soon Countdown

Days left until a Leaving Soon cleanup rule removes this title — recomputed each overlay run so it counts down.

SettingWhat it does
Format (<<days>> = days left)The countdown text. <<days>> is replaced with the number of days left before the cleanup rule removes the title.
Text: last dayThe wording on the last day, when there are no days left to count.

Runtime

The title's runtime, e.g. “1h 30m”.

SettingWhat it does
Prefix TextText printed before the runtime itself, including any trailing space you want between them.
Custom Format (blank = smart default, e.g. "45m" or "1h 30m")Override the runtime wording. Blank picks it for you ("45m" for under an hour, "1h 30m" over). <<runtimeH>> and <<runtimeM>> are the hours and minutes.

Where each overlay is offered

An overlay only appears on the media-type tabs it can draw something on.
