Moving Kustos, or reinstalling Windows
The same files, in the same order, with one addition.
- Install Kustos on the new machine and let it start once, so the folders exist. The same version or newer is fine — a backup taken on an older build catches up on startup. Only going backwards to an older build is a problem, for the reason in the section above.
- Stop the service there.
- Copy the old machine's kustos.db — or a backup from backups\ — into %ProgramData%\Kustos\, and delete any -wal and -shm beside it.
- Copy your assets folder, your font folders, Kustos Asset Backups (it sits beside the assets folder) and %ProgramData%\Kustos\overlay-base. The database records what is in them; it does not contain them, so a database without them leaves Kustos pointing at artwork that is not there.
- Start the service and check Connections — the services are in the database, so they should all still be there. Anything stored outside the database, such as a file path that only exists on the old machine, needs re-pointing.
