Wiki / Backup and restore
Restoring an older backup onto a newer Kustos
This is the normal direction and it is safe. Kustos keeps a list of the database changes it has applied, and on startup it applies any that the restored snapshot has not seen yet. An older database simply catches up.
The other direction is not supported. Putting a newer backup onto an older Kustos build will start without complaining — the older build sees every change it knows about already recorded and applies nothing — but the database keeps tables and columns that build has never heard of. Nothing warns you, and anything that goes wrong afterwards goes wrong quietly. If you need to go back to an older Kustos, restore a backup from when you were running it.
