Wiki / Backup and restore
What a restore does and does not undo
This is where restores surprise people. You have rewound Kustos's records, not your library.
| Undone | Everything Kustos knew: which artwork it applied, enrolled sets, cleanup history, watch state it had recorded, settings changed since the snapshot |
| Not undone | Artwork already in Plex, files in your assets folder, anything the arrs did, anything deleted from disk |
The practical consequence: Kustos will probably re-apply artwork after a restore. Its record of having dressed a title went back in time, the picture in Plex did not, so the next pass sees work to do and does it. That is expected and it settles after a pass or two. It is not a sign the restore failed.
If you restored specifically to undo a cleanup run, note that the files are still gone — a restore brings back the history of the deletion, not the media.
