What to set first

There are forty-odd settings on this page and you need about six of them. Do these in order on a new install, and leave the rest alone until something makes you change it.

1. Timezone, under Setup → General. Everything scheduled reads from it, so a wrong timezone runs every nightly job at the wrong hour and is miserable to diagnose months later.
2. External URL, under Setup → General, if you reach Kustos from outside the house. Links in notifications are built from it.
3. Watch tracking, under Setup → Media management. It decides what counts as watched, which decides what a cleanup rule is allowed to remove. Set it before you write a cleanup rule, not after.
4. Cleanup safety limits, under Maintenance → Upkeep. The caps that bound how much any single run can delete. Set them before your first rule comes out of dry run.
5. Notifications, under Automation → Notifications, so you find out what ran without going looking for it.
6. Backups, under Maintenance → Backups. Before anything starts deleting.

Suggestions settings are per person as well as household-wide. Anything a person leaves on Follow household keeps following it, including when you change the household value later.
